Driver Group Game Picks for Las Vegas

Facebooktwitter

The Cup Series traveled to Sin City to race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The teams were allowed 20 minutes of practice to shake down their cars. This is not a lot of time, but it is the first time we were able to see the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse and the Toyota Camry XSE in the regular race package (not the Superspeedway package). Most teams were able to make some long runs in practice, so now we have some data to work with. Track position is also important at Las Vegas. The driver’s who started first and second in the last race at Las Vegas, finished first and second in the race.

Here is my starting lineup for the Pennzoil 400

KYLE LARSON (9): Larson came into the weekend as the favorite to win the race and he showed in practice Saturday why the odds makers liked him so much. Larson posted the third-fast speed in his group. He also posted the fastest five-lap, 10-lap, 15-lap and 20-lap average speeds. Larson qualified second for the race. He should score a lot of points for your Driver Group Game lineup.

TYLER REDDICK (9): Reddick did not qualify well, but the No. 45 car looked fast in race trim. Reddick posted the fourth-fastest speed in his group. He also posted the third-fastest 10-lap and the third-fastest 15-lap average speed. He should make his way to the front from the 18th starting position.

JOEY LOGANO (9): I wrote in the article earlier this week that I was using Logano for qualifying points. Well, Logano won the pole and scored our team bonus points for qualifying. So, should we start him in the race? Logano was only ninth-fastest in his group in practice, but he said they hit on something at the end of practice. His No. 1 pit stall should help the No. 22 team too. I will take a chance with Lagono from the pole.

COREY LAJOIE (7): Lajoie did not look great in practice, but he did not look terrible. Chase Briscoe probably has the best car in Group C and LaJoie is second. He posted the sixth-fastest lap in his group in practice. I will use another allocation with LaJoie Sunday.

Good Luck Sunday!
