The Cup Series has their first driver in the championship race at Phoenix. Kyle Larson dominated most of the races on the 1.5-mile tracks this year so it was no surprise that the No. 5 team clinched their spot in the championship race. Will Larson dominate again at Kansas or will another playoff driver punch his ticket to Phoenix? Or maybe we will have a spoiler in Victory Lane like Kevin Harvick or Tyler Reddick. It should be fun to watch. The Hollywood Casino 400 can be seen Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
The Cup Series last competed at Kansas in early May. Kyle Busch won the Buschy McBusch 400 on his birthday. Kansas is a heat sensitive track. The last race at Kansas had highs in the low 80’s. The weather forecast for Sunday’s race calls for rain and temps in the mid-60’s. Hopefully the forecast clears up and NASCAR can get the race in Sunday. The track should have more grip than it did in June and that should allow for more drivers to have faster cars.
I used the stats from the races on the 1.5-mile tracks for the Driver Rankings this week. There have been seven races on the 1.5-mile “cookie-cutter” style tracks this year. I used the Driver Ratings and Average Green Flag Speeds from those races. I gave extra weight to the last two races (Texas and Las Vegas) and the last race at Kansas.
