Early Week Driver Rankings for Bristol

Wow, that was fast…. The Cup Series has already reached the final race in the Round of 16. Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick advanced to the Round of 12 with their wins (Larson at Darlington and Reddick at Kansas). Who will join them this week? “It’s Bristol Baby” and it is going to be fun to see these guys beat and bang their way to Victory Lane. The Bass Pro Shops Night Race can be seen Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on USA Network.

Isn’t it nice to know the Cup Series is going to race at Bristol and the track is not going to be covered in dirt? I know some people are fans of the Bristol Dirt Race, but I am not in that group. Bristol is one of the best tracks on the circuit (at least it was before the Gen-7 car came around) and it did not need to be changed. Hopefully the new car can put on a good show under the lights at Bristol.

Bristol is a .533-mile, high-banked concrete oval. The track takes rubber fast, but passing has been difficult in the Gen-7 car. There really isn’t any track on the schedule that is the same at Bristol. I typically look at the driver’s track history at Bristol to help handicap this race. Drivers either know how to get around Bristol or they are in the way. I also add in the data from Dover (another high-banked, concrete oval) and then I use the data from the other short tracks in 2023. This should give us a good idea of which drivers will be fast Saturday night.
