Early Week Driver Rankings for Charlotte

Facebooktwitter

The Cup Series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway this week to race on the Roval. NASCAR announced last week that the Cup Series will return to the traditional oval track next year, so this may be the last time we see the cars race the road course in Charlotte.

This is also the final race in the Round of 12. William Byron (Texas) and Ryan Blaney (Talladega) have already advanced to the Round of Eight. The drivers are going to need their best road course skills in order to join these two drivers in the next round of the playoffs.

The Charlotte Roval is a 2.28-mile track that uses the high banks of the oval track and the tight turns of the road course at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The track that is most like the Charlotte Roval is the Indianapolis Road Course. I gave the race at the Brickyard extra weight in the model to handicap the race Sunday. I also used the data from COTA, Sonoma and Watkins Glen. I added in the data from the last two races at the Charlotte Roval to give us some track history.

Here are my early week driver rankings for the Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte…
