Early Week Driver Rankings for Indianapolis

The NASCAR Cup Series will travel to Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week to compete on the road course. Will this be the last race for the Cup Series on the road course at the Brickyard? There are many rumors floating around that the Cup Series will return to racing on the traditional track at Indianapolis next year. We will see what NASCAR’s decision is in a few weeks when the 2024 schedule is released. First, the Cup Series needs to get through the race Sunday at the Brickyard.

The Cup Series has competed on three road courses this year (COTA, Sonoma and the Chicago Street Course). COTA and Sonoma are completely different styles of road courses from what we will see this week at Indy. I still think we can use some of the data from those races to help handicap the race Sunday. The Chicago Street Course race was a complete mess. The weather to start the race caused many good cars to wreck. Then NASCAR decided to shorten the race after many of the top cars pitted for fuel. I am not using any of the data from the Chicago Street Course race for the race at the Brickyard this week.
