Early Week Driver Rankings for Watkins Glen

The NASCAR Cup Series will travel to Watkins Glen the weekend for another road course race. This will be the second consecutive road course race for the Cup Series and the fifth road course race on the Cup Series schedule. This is also race No. 25 of the 2023 season. That means there are only two more chances for a driver to win a race and secure a spot in the playoffs. Michael McDowell added his name to the list of drivers locked into the playoffs last week. Will we get another first time winner Sunday? It should be fun to watch. The Go Bowling at the Glen can be seen Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network.

The Cup Series has now raced at four road course tracks (COTA, Sonoma, Chicago and Indianapolis). We can throw out the data from the Chicago Street Course race, so really we only have three races to work with. I will use the data from COTA, Sonoma and Indy and combine it with the data from the road course races in the Gen-7 car last year. This should give us a good idea of which teams will be fast when the cars are unloaded for practice Saturday.
