NASCAR Driver Rankings for Iowa

They said it couldn’t be done… They said it wouldn’t be done, but finally the Cup Series will race at Iowa Speedway. The trip to the land of corn is probably about three years too late. Iowa is a 7/8-mile track and the old car would have produced an awesome race in the Heartland. I am not so sure the Gen-7 car will be great. It really doesn’t matter to the people who live in the part of the country (I am one of them). We are just happy to see NASCAR adding another race in our backyard. The Iowa Corn 350 can be seen Sunday at 7p.m. ET on USA. (Yes, the race is on USA and not the Fox networks).

While the trip to Iowa Speedways is great for NASCAR, it is always tough to predict when we do not have any data to work with. Iowa Speedway is similar in size and shape to Richmond Raceway. I will give the data from the race at Richmond some extra weight in the Driver Rankings this week. I will also add in the data from the races at Phoenix and North Wilksboro to help handicap Sunday night’s race.

Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Brad Keselowski spent 10-hours at Iowa Speedway in a tire test last month. I will give these drivers a bump in the rankings since they have more data to work with than the other teams.
