NASCAR One & Done Pick for Gateway

Facebooktwitter

NASCAR will travel back to the Midwest this week to race at the World Wide Technology Raceway (Gateway) for the third time. This track is an intermediate, flat track, similar to Phoenix and Richmond. The Gen-7 can has not produced great racing on the flat tracks this season, but NASCAR said that Goodyear is working hard to improve the tires to create better racing (It is a car problem and not a tire problem). Hopefully we can get a good race when the Cup Series stars compete in the Enjoy Illinois 300 Sunday.

I decided to take a chance with Justin Allgaier last week in my lineups where you can only use a driver once throughout the season and it worked out well. I knew NASCAR awarded points to the driver who starts the race, so Allgaier would get the points, even if Kyle Larson got into the car. Allgaier finished 13th and now we have an extra start with another driver. I used Chase Elliott in the games where you can use a driver more than once. He finished 7th. Not too bad. I used William Byron in the games where you can use a driver more than once. Byron finished 3rd. Overall it was a good race for the One & Done picks at Charlotte.

Here are the picks for the Enjoy Illinois 300 ….

ONE & DONE CONTESTS

This pick is for games where you can only use a driver once throughout the season.

KYLE BUSCH will be my pick in games where you can use a driver once throughout the season. It has been hard to trust Busch this year, but if he cannot get it done this week at Gateway, he may not get to Victory Lane at all in 2024. Busch led 121 laps, scored 19 Stage Points and won the race at Gateway last year. He also finished second in 2022. Gateway is the best track for Busch, so I will take a chance with the No. 8 car in my One & Done lineup.

ONE & DONE (REGULAR SEASON/PLAYOFF GAMES)

There are some One & Done Contests that reset when the playoffs start. That means you only need to use 26 Drivers for the regular season and then 10 drivers for the playoffs. We can be more aggressive in these types of One & Done Contests.

JOEY LOGANO will be my pick in games that reset at the end of the regular season. There is a lot to like about Logano this week. He won the race at Gateway in 2022 and he finished third at this track last year. The No. 22 team hit on something during the tire test at North Wilksboro. They took that information to Richmond and the No. 22 car finished second. They brought it back to the All-Star Race at North Wilksboro and Logano nearly lead every lap in the race. The Enjoy Illinois 300 is a good race to take a chance with Logano in your lineup.

ONE & DONE (USE A DRIVER MORE THAN ONCE)

There are some One & Done games that are not really “One & Done.” I play in a league where you can use a driver twice and another league where you can use a driver three times during the season. The picks posted below are for these types of contests (I am going to base these picks on being able to use a driver twice during the 2024 season).

CHRISTOPHER BELL will be my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once during the 2024 season. Bell broke out of his slump with a win in the Coca-Cola 600. So, can he start a hot streak with a win at Gateway? I am not sure, but a top-five finish in not out of the question. Bell tested at Iowa Speedway earlier this week. It is obvious that the team hit on something that should work at Gateway. Bell won on the intermediate track at Phoenix. He could do it again Sunday.

Good luck Sunday!
