Updated Best Bets for Sonoma

Facebooktwitter

The Cup Series races compete at Sonoma Raceway this weekend. This will not be the same track that the teams raced on last year. Sonoma was repaved over the off-season, so the teams were allowed to practice for 50-minutes Friday to help dial in their cars for the Toyota / Save Mart 350. We have more data than usual to work with this week to handicap the race. I will add a few more drivers to my card for the race Sunday.

BETS MADE EARLIER THIS WEEK

I already have CHASE ELLIOTT (+900), MICHAEL MCDOWELL (+1400), CHRIS BUESCHER (+1400), DENNY HAMLIN (+2200) and KYLE BUSCH (+2800) on my betting card.

* I have $40 left from my $100 budget. Here is how I will be spending the remaining funds on the Toyota / Save Mart 350

BETS ADDED AFTER QUALIFYING

The repave at Sonoma looks like it is going to make the Toyota / Save Mart 350 one of the most unpredictable races of the season. The drivers who typically look good at Sonoma (Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch and Chris Buescher look lost this week. Drivers who have a history of struggling at Sonoma (Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain and William Byron) all look fast. I will be adding three drivers who have a history of running well at Sonoma, looked fast in practice and qualified in the top-10.

KYLE LARSON (+450): I am betting Larson as an insurance policy this week. I have spent $100 on this race and I only win $67.50 if Larson wins. The No. 5 car was the fastest in practice and Larson was on his way to the pole when he clipped the tire barrier in qualifying. Larson has the fastest car in practice and the talent to win the race today. I rather bet Larson to win and be out $32, then to fade him and be out $100.

JOEY LOGANO (+750): Logano is the first driver that comes to mind when people think of road course racing at Sonoma, but he has been good at this track. Logano finished third at Sonoma last year and fourth in 2021. The No. 22 car won the pole in a race where track position is everything. Logano has a history of winning the races on repaved tracks. It looks like he may do it again today.

DANIEL SUAREZ (+2800): Suarez did not look good in practice, but his teammate (Ross Chastain) had one of the fastest cars. Suarez said he talked to Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen after practice to help set up his car for qualifying. It worked. Suarez qualified seventh and My Amigo looks like one of the drivers to beat today. He won the race at Sonoma in the Gen-7 car in 2022. I will bet that he can do it again today.

Good luck Sunday!
