The Cup Series is competing at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday. The newly repaved track is now considered a Superspeedway so that means the cars will use the 510 HP aero package with the 7” splitter. This package is only used at Daytona, Talladega and Atlanta. Racing on a Superspeedway also means the teams did not get any track time to practice this week.
The Cup Series was supposed to qualify the cars Saturday but Mother Nature did not cooperate. The qualifying session was canceled because of rain so that means the field was set “per the rule book.” The only data we have to use for the race is from the last race at Atlanta in March and the two other Superspeedway races (Daytona and Talladega). I used that data for the rankings this week.
