The NASCAR Cup Series has reached race No. 11 on the schedule and that means the teams will be making a trip to Texas Motor Speedway for the Wurth 400. NASCAR reduced this race from 500 miles to 400 miles a few years ago. That was a good decision. We do not get many good races with the Gen-7 car, but Texas has put on a decent race in this Lego-car (for Gen-7 standards). Kyle Larson paced the field with 77 laps led at Texas last year, but there were four other drivers who led over 30 laps (Chase Elliott, Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain). There were 23 lead changes and 16 cautions at Texas last year. The race Sunday will likely have more action than we are used to with the Gen-7 car. The Wurth 400 can be seen Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on FS1.
NASCAR had their normal schedule this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The teams were separated into two groups and they had 25-minutes to shake down their cars for the Wurth 400. Most of the teams were able to make some long runs in practice.
So, how did the practice speeds translate into race speed last year at Texas Motor Speedway? Kyle Larson led the most laps (77) and he posted the 3rd fast speed in practice with the 2nd-fastest long-run speed. Chase Elliott won the race and Tyler Reddick led the third-most laps and finished fourth. Elliott and Reddick were also fast in practice. We can expect the drivers at the top of the speed chart in practice to be in front of the field Sunday in the Wurth 400.
Here are my final picks for the race Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway…
