The Xfinity Series will join the Cup Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend. This is the last race in the first round of the Xfinity Series Playoffs. Justin Allgaier secured his spot in the Round of 8 with his win at Bristol and John H. Nemechek advanced with his win at Texas. Will these two top drivers in the Xfinity Series continue to dominate or will we have a new winner in Victory Lane Saturday. It will be fun to see how it all plays out. The Drive for the Cure 250 can be seen Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.
PRACTICE AT CHARLOTTE
The Xfinity Series had 20-minutes to dial in their cars for the race Sunday. The Charlotte Roval is a 2.28-mile track, so the teams did not have a lot of time to make many long runs in practice. Traffic can also skew a driver’s speed. I doubt we will learn much from the practice speeds, but the group qualifying session should tell us which drivers are fast. I will look at the driver’s speed in practice, but I will be focusing more on starting position today.
Here are the lap times from the practice Saturday’s practice at the Charlotte Roval…

AVERAGE DFS POINTS ON ROAD COURSE
The Xfinity Series has competed on eight road courses this year (COTA, Portland, Sonoma, Chicago, Road America, Indy Road Course and Watkins Glen). That is a lot of data to work with. I used the data from these races and the last two races on the Charlotte Roval (so we can have some track history in the model) to help handicap the race Saturday.
Here are the average DraftKings Points from the races on the road course (2023) and the races the Charlotte Roval in 2021 and 2022…

STRATEGY FOR CHARLOTTE
The Xfinity Series races on the Charlotte Roval tend to be a three dominator races. One driver leads 24 laps and scores 18 fastest laps (14.1 dominator points). Another drivers leads about the same number of laps and scores the same fastest laps (14.1 dominator points). A third driver leads 18 laps and scores 10 fastest laps (9 dominator points).
My strategy this week will be to select six drivers who have a good chance to finish in the top-12. The field is deep enough to pair some good “value picks” with drivers who have a history of running well at the road courses. Hopefully this combination will allow us to select the three dominators and three value drivers who all finish up front.
The drivers with the best chance to lead laps and score dominator points include Justin Allgaier, Sam Mayer, Cole Custer and Sheldon Creed
