The NASCAR Cup Series will make a trip to Michigan International Speedway Sunday. This will be the first race on a 2-mile oval and only the seventh race on an intermediate track in 2021. Usually the scheduled is filled with 1.5 and 2-mile ovals, but NASCAR decided to replace Kentucky, Chicago and California with road courses. The teams better have their 550 HP aero package ready to roll Sunday because the teams only have two races left to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
Chase Briscoe was my One & Done pick at Indianapolis. The One & Done picks finished 2nd in the last three races (Atlanta, New Hampshire and Watkins Glen). I thought we had another 2nd-place finish wrapped up at Indianapolis. Briscoe was running 2nd in overtime when he was forced through the grass. Briscoe was assessed a stop-and-go penalty, resulting in a 26th-place finish. That is just some shitty luck! Hopefully the Fantasy Gods reward us this week in Michigan.
My One & Done Pick for Michigan: Kevin Harvick
I map out which drivers I want to use at which tracks before the season began. I had Kevin Harvick penciled in for the race at Michigan and I am sticking with the plan. Harvick swept the races at Michigan last year and he has won 4 of the last 5 races at the track. He told Clair B. Lang on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Sunday evening, “I am confident we can get the job done at Michigan. Rodney (Childers) knows how to prepare the car I need for that track. I know they have been working on it for over a month. I expect the race next week will be the spark that our team will need heading into the playoffs.” Harvick needs points so the No. 4 team will use a strategy to keep Harvick up front and allow him to score Stage points. This “should” be a good race for Harvick.
Good luck this week!
